Offshore oil project will spark N. L. construction boom
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
The Expositor -- Newfoundland and Labrador will give the green light to the $5-billion Hebron offshore oil project today, setting off a long-awaited construction boom that's expected to bring a small army of skilled, young workers back to the province over the next three years.

Calvin Farewell, 27, hopes to be among them.

The Newfoundlander currently commutes each month to work in the tarsands near Fort McMurray, Alta. He says he's eager to learn details of how much work the oil consortium will be required to carry out at the shipyard in his hometown of Marystown.

I'd imagine this field will not contribute any more than th existing alaska fields do now, and this will not come online for over three years, we'll be in proven decline by then and all this will do is slow down the inevitable decline... hope they are taking the environment into consideration

Many regions and segments of the US Economy could use a similar "spark" - one more of the litany of reasons to Drill domestically

Good. Now they can raise prices even higher to pay for the drilling. Anything they do they will profit from and we the consumer will pay dearly.

I have to assume that exploration and drilling will continue to pickup all over the world with oil over $100 a barrel.

Go get it, Canadians. You might as well have ours, too, since we Americans are too lazy to get our govt let us go get it.

OOps, I did not mean to imply the above areas are in the U.S. I was simply comparing this to the closed minds here in the U.S.

Now if you ask House Speaker Nancy Pestillence she would say it will do no good to do this because the results would be too far down the road and might cause damage to the enviorment. I say she is so stupid. Any work to recover oil from the ground will help until we can figure out other energy sources. I would rather the U.S. drill and keep our money here than send it to some other country.

It's never too cold to work. Work doesn't start on Alaska's North Slope until the tundra freezes, to protect the environment.

For all you guys who keep saying "Drill! Drill! Drill!" here ya go. Canada's doing it and Canada is the biggest supplier of oil to the U.S. in the world. So, the U.S. still has to depend on foreign supplies but it's at least better to be coming from a friendly nation and perhaps decreasing dependence on OPEC.

It'll be a few years before we can reap the rewards of this project. But
at least there is hope for the future while we will hopefully continue
to research and develop alternate energy.

You watch...Polosi will come back and encourage the dem's to sign a phoney bill that says one thing and means another from the way it's written. Just to try and fool us. They really think "We The People" are so very stupid.

She doesn't fool me and I'm sure she doesn't fool you either...Oh! Isn't it a conflict of interest if she invests her own money in that T Boone Pickens windmill source of energy plan??? She'll be doing everything she can to promote this...wait and see...

We need for congress to come back from their extended taxpayer paid vacation and address this now. Pelosi and demos are blocking the offshore drilling in US, which includes 50 miles inland. Drill Here, Drill Now to meet our needs until a good economical alternative is developed.
