Right you are, teafortwo. There is every reason to recover oil, including monetary and environmental.

Oil is a valuable resource because of its many unique chemical properties.
The fact that oil can be used and reused, again and again, while still maintaining its' original useful properties makes it all the more valuable.
Oil is also very toxic.
Using oil, and reusing and recycling oil can be a good thing.
Keeping oil out of our water and food chain is also a good thing ;0}

When we are talking waste oil here are we talking oil spills or used oil from vehicles? if it's used oil why is there water in it????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oil leaks from cars all the time into the streets and into the water system. Oil gets put down sinks (illegally dumped or washed off of hands for example). Oil gets all over the place despite the fact that people do recycle it where applicable.
Water treatment plants should all have those to recover the oil, recycle it or burn it to generate power.
I like to recycle. I know where to take my oil for recycling on the rare occasion that I change my own oil...in my car.
For the deep frier, no idea where to take the oil.
Skimming oils is not limited to petroleum as the article alluded. Food processing facilities may have substantial quantities of oils in their waste streams.
It takes a lot of effort to get to this resource in the first place. Let's not waste it.
It seems we should do as much of this as we can. They have the profit money to make it work. There are so many leaking wells that we have to do all we can while we more on to better energy ideas.
A lot of Engine oil being sold has been recycled if you look for it. Many people worry about it possibly losing some of it's lubricating properties or some residual contamination. Because of those concerns it's less popular even though usually cheaper.
