There are many ways to conserve which will cause prices to drop. The biggest is simply to slow down. Unless one is on an 8 hour trip, jack rabbit starts and fast driving save only seconds on a drive.

If we continue to conserve, gas prices should drop.

when diesel is back to being lower than gasoline, then the economy will pick up steam again.

heyd: I do too. In fact, one station here went from 3.89 to 4.09 overnight for diesel while gas fell from 3.35 to 3.29. Hmmm.. can anyone say subsidizing...?

prices dropped a few cents around here since the Turkey Day rush is over, which is welcomed, but it sure would be nice to see it fall more!

If the gas inventory goes up that most probably means the oil that was used to make gas would go down.

I've noticed it here in this part of Maine. Prices have spiked anywhere from $0.05 to $0.10 in the past week.

So, if inventories are up there should be no "shortage surcharge"?

I was happy to read refinery utilization rate was up, but if you noticed both the east & west coast rates are still lagging behind. Also these same areas that have higher gas prices, which could mean there is a link between supply and demand.

If inventories are up (supply up) then economic law says prices should be down.

They are big numbers that I don't understand very well. What I'm sensitive to is the pump price at the local gas station.

Inventories just don't have the effect on prices that they did in the past.
With domestic refining capacity far exceeding domestic demand, that means inventories are not crucial as our refiners can easily produce what we need when we need it.
But, because our dollar is being made less valuable due to our government printing so many of them, the world price of gasoline pulls up what we pay at the pump since others outside the US see gas as being relatively cheap.
