How far under the Missouri will they build the pipeline? And Mr. Laskowski, your rosey blog didn't mention what the Sioux City paper said about the vote "....Laskoski wasn't around for the bitter 2008 refendum to rezone Union County farmland for the Hyperion site, a campaign which pitted neighbor against neighbor and even some relatives against relatives."

Hopefully this gets sorted out without all the mess that has been part of the Keystone XL pipeline...

I've written my critters in congress and obama -- build the darn keystone pipeline to South Dakota and save at least a 1000 miles.
This is so freakin' stupid. Obviously, the oil companies figure they will make more money moving the oil to texas, even though they will be spending a few extra billion to do it.

Will this refinery be big enough and close enough to handle crude from the Bakken field also?

So long as we still use oil we need refineries and it would be better to have one in the Dakotas and decrease the need of very long pipelines. Ahd product refined there is less likely to be exported!

I suspect sometime in the not too distant future we will be reading a news article that reports "South Dakota Refinery is cited for causing a major oil spill." What South Dakota should have done was to announce they were investing in renewable energy.
The sooner we server our dependence on Crude oil to power our vehicles and industry the sooner we will permanently sever the strangle hold the Global Oil Cartel now enjoys over each and every gasoline consumer around the globe.

Even if we produce more oil & refine more It won't help much unless they get rid of speculators, remove US commodities including Oil & petroleum, from the European stock market, Stop exporting US oil & petroleum overseas.

We have more oil here in the U.S. then anyone lets on. We need to use it and bring the prices way down.

Hire 50,000 workers, work 3 shifts, 24/7 and it will be built in a year, instead of 6

Good for S Dakota. One NEW refinery is a start. The USA needs dozens of new refineries to break this particular bottleneck in keeping prices sky high, for some forty years, not just for gasoline and diesel but for all types of petroleum products, and for prices to begin coming down to reasonable levels.

I've been telling my friends how long it has been since a refinery was built in the U.S. and they didn't believe it. Thanks to this article and other resources I've shared with them, they now know the truth.
